I hope I can be a part of a lasting culture in this institution. It is my new goal to help shape a culture that produces tangible benefits grounded in mutual respect. A culture that is transformed by transparent, outcome-based budgets. A culture where we can disagree without being disagreeable in the most inclusive way possible”

Holly South is the program lead for the National Conference of State Legislatures’ annual Legislative Staff Certificate Program. South shared the concentration of the program: “This online, monthlong intensive training seminar is for newer legislative staff who seek to gain context about legislatures and the legislative process. Participants of the program benefit from a wide variety of perspectives and insights about the role of legislative staff in supporting the legislative institution.”  South explained the Cohort class component: “The program also provides a great opportunity for them to connect with colleagues from other states who share similar experiences, challenges and successes.”

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the states, commonwealths and territories. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
